Employee crushes left thumb between hoist bar and roll

On May 11, 1993, Employee #1, the press jogger at the Delta Lithograph Company in Valencia, CA, saw that one end of a hoist was not hooked on properly. He guided the hoist with the support bar that runs across the hoist. With his left hand on the far right corner of the support bar, he maneuvered the hoist under a metal guard and pressed the hoist control with his right hand. He pinched his left thumb between the metal support bar and the metal guard of the splicer of the Mann Press. Employee #1 was taken to the First Care Occupational Group by Delta Lithograph personnel and was transferred to the Henry Mayo Hospital in Newhall.
