CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYEE BECOMES ILL AT WORK AND COLLAPSES

AT ABOUT MIDDAY ON SEPTEMBER 27, 1991, EMPLOYEE #1 COLLAPSED ON THE JOB AT A NEW PRISON CONSTRUCTION SITE. HE WAS DOING HIS USUAL WORK AS A CEMENT FINISHER, WORKING OUTDOORS ON A CONCRETE SLAB. BEFORE COLLAPSING, HE COMPLAINED OF FATIGUE TO CO-WORKERS. AT THAT TIME, PARAMEDICS WERE SUMMONED AND TRANSPORTED HIM TO ANTELOPE VALLEY HOSPITAL. THE EMPLOYEE HAD AN ELEVATED TEMPERATURE AND OTHER MEDICAL PROBLEMS. HE WAS HOSPITALIZED AT THAT HOSPITAL UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30, 1991, WHEN HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO SANTA ANA HOSPITAL MEDICAL CENTER, WHERE HE REMAINED HOSPITALIZED UNTIL HIS DEATH ON OCTOBER 5TH. AS OF THE DATE OF THIS REPORT, THE CAUSE OF THE EMPLOYEE'S ILLNESS IS NOT KNOWN.
