Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170156947
Event: 09/08/1992
Truck driver falls from ladder while scraping truck hopper

Employee #1 was the owner-operator of an over-the-road tractor trailer from another state, but he was not an employee of Hill's Pet Products. He was standing on a ladder leaning against the hopper of the truck trailer, using a long metal scraper provided by the company to push the product into the outflow hole at the bottom of the hopper. Employee #1 lost his balance and fell backward, reportedly catching his foot in the rung of the ladder. Because he was obese, he was taken to the hospital by paramedics who were concerned about medical complications due to his weight. Employee #1 was treated and released. He left the state that night with his truck and trailer.
