Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170157002
Event: 05/25/1992
Employee's hand crushed and burned by bottle mold

Employee #1, of American National Can Co., was operating a large, pneumatic bottle-molding (IS) machine. He noticed that the bottom plate was not registering on the bottles correctly, so that the writing was not clear. He turned off the individual section of the machine in front, but did not go behind the machine to shut off the air. Employee #1 reached into the bottle mold to replace the bottom plate, and the mold closed on his hand, crushing and burning it.
