Employee's fingers lacerated by teeth of sealing machine

At 4:50 p.m. on April 20, 1992, Employee #1, a packer for J & J Snack Foods, Inc., was sealing packages of cookies with a Dowboy Sealing Machine and dropping them on a conveyor line. She extended her right hand too far under the plastic guard and exposed her hand to the sealing jaws' sharp knives and teeth. Employee #1's 3rd, 4th, and 5th fingers were severely lacerated. She was taken to White Memorial Hospital and admitted for three days. Employee #1 is now being treated as an outpatient. The employer was advised to retrain the employees and to enforce safety rules to prevent future accidents.
