Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170180665
Event: 09/17/1991
Employee injured when struck by falling refrigeration unit

Two employees were moving a 1,468 lb, 5 ft high truck refrigeration unit from inside a repair shop to a truck trailer parked outside in a yard. They were moving the unit on a wheeled motor stand. The unit was top heavy when mounted on the motor stand. When crossing the door threshold, the motor stand's casters caught in a crack in the pavement, and the refrigeration unit toppled over onto Employee #1, pinning him momentarily to the ground. Employee #1 sustained contusions to his shoulder and a compound fracture of his lower left leg.
