Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170153795
Event: 10/10/1990
Employee injured in fall from scaffold

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on October 10, 1991, Employee #1, a construction worker in the property department of Steven Bochco Productions, was working on portable scaffolding at a height of approximately 10 ft 9 in. He and a coworker were installing the last section of an approximately 120 ft long prefabricated wall on stage #10. They had the scaffold in place and went aloft to connect the wall to the overhead angle iron supports. The 3 to 4 ft long supports were secured to a hanging catwalk over the stage. The scaffold had no guardrail at the face of the wall due to the angle of the angle irons attached to the catwalk. Employee #1 was working in a crouched position at the inner edge, close to the wall. He started to rise, bumped against the angle iron, and lost his balance. In an attempt to steady himself, he reached out for the wall section, which gave way and fell to the stage floor. Employee #1also fell and was injured. The employer had leased stage #10 from 20th Century Fox Studios.
