Employee falls from roof when hammer contacts roof

At approximately 9:50 a.m. on June 23, 1992, Employee #1 was preparing roofing materials for use on a roofing repair work site. As Employee #1 kneeled forward, the handle of his hammer, which was in its belt sheath, contacted the roof surface and Employee #1 lost his balance. He fell 19 ft to the asphalt parking lot. The roof had a pitch of 3.5:12, thus the employer is not required to provide fall protection below elevations of 20 ft. There was no violation of T8CCR and no citation was issued.
