Investigation Summary
At approximately 7:15 p.m. on February 4, 1991, Employee #1, of the Curro-Kraft division of Sunclipse, Inc., was manually threading paper into a machine on which the paper feed was broken. He had stopped the machine and had threaded the paper through the idler roll and through the other station. He started the machine while his left hand was still on the paper in the idler roll. Employee #1's hand was pulled toward the hot plate and he suffered second- and third-degree burns. He was transported by paramedics to the La Mirada Medical Center, where he was treated and released within 24 hours. Employee #1 had worked for the employer since May 20, 1987, and had been trained in the operation of the equipment. The company manufactures cardboard from purchased paper.
