Employee's unprotected eye injured by flying object

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on July 14, 1992, Employee #1, of California Industrial Products, Inc., was reading a blueprint without eye protection. Nearby a coworker was hitting a machine part with a hammer to remove it from a press machine. A steel chip flew from the press and struck Employee #1in the left eye, resulting in his being hospitalized. A general violation of T8CCR 3382(a) was observed and cited. A serious violation unrelated to the accident and a regulatory violation were also cited.
