Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170194187
Event: 08/08/1990
Employee injured when wall being raised falls and pins him

At 5:30 p.m. on August 8, 1990, Employee #1, his foreman, and coworkers were raising a 20 to 24 ft long, 2 by 6 stud wall that was 8 ft tall at one end and 16 ft tall at the other. The wall slipped off the floor and began to slide toward the ground, which was 3 ft below the floor. At approximately 1 ft above the ground, the bottom sill hit a wood cutting platform and slid outward. Employee #1, who was small in stature, was supporting the wall at the point where it was about 14 ft tall. He was behind a beam in the wall when he became caught between the wall and the floor when the wall fell on him. Employee #1suffered a broken nose, chipped tooth, bruised ribs, and contusions to the muscles in his hip. The foreman and coworkers were able to get away or slip between the studs.
