Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170718027
Event: 06/10/1992
EMPLOYEE FALLS FROM TREE AFTER STINGS BY YELLOW JACKETS

A tree trimmer had climbed a tree to clear a limb from a 12-kilovolt overhead power line. He was supported only by his safety rope, which was tied around the tree. When the employee cut the limb, he swung it back into the tree so it would not hit the power line. The swinging limb hit a yellow jacket nest, and the wasps started stinging him in the face. As the employee descended the tree, he unfastened his safety rope to get around a lower limb. When he tried to reconnect his safety rope, he fell about 13 meters to the ground. The employee was hospitalized for his injuries.
