Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170158844
Event: 10/01/1991
No injuries when bridge support collapses

At approximately 2:10 p.m. on September 17, 1991, falsework and support for a Cal/Trans bridge fell onto the Imperial Highway. There were no injuries or fatalities to workmen or the public, although there was significant publicity, as the collapse was covered by the media. Damage consisted of wood falsework and steel support beams owned by the Kasler Corp. The Los Angeles County Fire Department verified that no one was caught in the fallen material. The exact cause of the failure could not be determined, but was investigated fully by Cal/Trans. The closure deck was poured on July 24, 1991, and there was no danger of bridge collapse.
