Employee's finger crushed while moving volleyball stand

Employee #1, a park maintenance worker with 10 years experience, was lifting and moving a portable volleyball stand onto the back of a county pickup truck. The stand was a pipe attached to a heavy circular base and had been abandoned in a parking lot at the Yorba Regional Park. A coworker was helping Employee #1 put the stand onto the truck bed when the base shifted and crushed Employee #1's left little finger against the open edge of the bed. Employee #1 had received numerous training sessions in job hazards and proper lifting procedures. No safety order violation was evident relating to the injury .
