EMPLOYEE KILLED WHEN RAN OVER BY A DUMP TRAILER

At approximately 5:05 p.m. on October 10, 1994, Employee #1 was fatally injured when he was run over by the rear wheels of a bottom dump trailer being pulled by a tractor. Employee #1 was part of a group of employees that were hauling wet (recent rain) almonds from the harvest operation to a flat graded field using a set of "doubles" bottom dump trailers pulled by a large John Deere tractor. The almonds were being dumped in rows to be dried in the sun. The first set of doubles had been dumped, and the front trailer of the second set had been dumped. The assistant manager had opened the gate on the back trailer. Employee #1 was walking along beside the trailer to watch for blockages when his foot got caught under the left rear wheels. The rear wheels of the trailer ran over the entire length of Employee #1's body. The assistant manager had seen Employee #1 getting too close to the rear wheel and was walking toward him to warn him. The trailer speed was reported to be about 2 mph.
