Employee injured when finger strikes stationary saw blade

On February 21, 1997, Employee #1, a millwright at a wood plant, was working inside the saw cabinet of a Whirlwind 1000 chop saw. He was pulling on a piece of duct tape to remove it from a guide block when his right hand slipped and struck against the stationary saw blade. The employee's jerking reaction resulted in pinching injuries and amputation of the tip of his little finger. The chop saw was locked out and was not running.
