Investigation Summary
Employee #1 was working as a precision end trim saw operator at a sawmill. He walked to the backside out the feed side of the precision end trim saw to free a jammed 4-in. by 4-in. 16-in. board. The saw was still running when Employee #1 reached in to straighten the jammed board. As Employee #1 grasped the board to dislodge it, the board moved forward. The running saw pulled his hand into the blade. His right ring finger was amputated to the first joint. Employee #1 stated he had shut the saw off. A witness stated that the saw was running and he had to shut it off after attending to Employee #1
