Employee's fingers amputated in saw

At approximately 12:40 p.m. on June 28, 1991, Employee #1 was cutting long 1 in. by 4 in. pieces of lumber into shorter lengths. He noticed dust coming out from under the chop saw table. He shut off the saw and reached into the access area to clean out the dust collection unit. The saw blade was still spinning and the second, third, and fourth fingers on his left hand were amputated below the second joint. He was taken to UC-Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, and admitted for treatment.
