Event: 09/20/1990
Employee injures fingers in extruder/grinder

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on September 20, 1990, Employee #1 was removing a piece of plastic from a Reitz extruder grinder. The power to the machine had been shut off and the access cover guard had been removed. Employee #1 reached into the blade area to remove the plastic, but the parts were still rotating due to the inertia of the rotating flywheel in the drive system. The third, fourth, and fifth fingers of his right hand were amputated to the first digit.
