Employee's fingertips lacerated in table saw

On May 2, 1991, Employee #1, an experienced wood shop machine operator, was using a Delta Powermatic table saw to precision cut some oak door jambs. A blade guard was not in place, so he crafted a 56 in. long 2 by 3 with a nailed butt or lip to push the door jambs through the precision cutting process. He was using his left hand to synchronize and hold down the 2 by 3 to push through a section of tapered door jamb. The jamb began to create unusual lateral pressure on the blade, and then to leave the saw. Employee #1's fingertips were lacerated by the saw blade.
