Investigation Summary
Gasoline vapors were being vented to the atmosphere in preparation for the entry and inspection of a tanker trailer. The vapors were ignited by arc cutting that was being done about 25 ft from the discharge point. Employees #1 through #4 were attempting to extinguish the flames with hand-held fire extinguishers when the tanker trailer exploded. Employee #1 was hospitalized for treatment of first- and second-degree burns to his face and eyes. Employees #2 through #4 suffered minor injures, and were treated and released.
