Investigation Summary
A power line worker was installing a fuse in an underground fused switch. He was sitting on the metal collar that was part of the enclosure. The circuit was apparently deenergized, but the supply side of the fuseholder was energized by voltage backfeed. The employee had neither isolated the switch from all known sources of voltage nor tested the fuseholder to see if it was energized. As he was inserting the fuse, his hand contacted energized parts in the fuseholder. He received an electric shock and sustained second-degree burns to his left hand and third-degree burns to his right buttocks and left thigh. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
