Employee dies at home of heart disease

At about 10:00 p.m. on April 6, 1994, Employee #1 and another utilities specialist were called out to clear a sewer line, which is part of their regular duties. Both workers reported to the shop to pick up a city vehicle and a sewer rod. The sewer rod was inserted about 100 ft into the line. Employee #1 pulled on the rod to remove the plug and the coworker guided it so that it would not become bent. Employee #1 strained his back, but finished the job. He worked part of the next day, but then went home because of back pain. At his request, he took paid sick leave from April 7, 1994 until May 5, 1994. On April 26, 27, and 28, Employee #1 attended a three-day water treatment class. On May 5, 1994, Employee #1 died at his home of heart disease.
