Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 976886
Event: 12/03/1988
Employee burned in paint room fire

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on December 2, 1988, Employee #1 was using a cutting torch to remove an old hydraulic lift part out of the floor of the paint room when a spark from the torch set a lacquer paint covered sawhorse 15 ft away on fire . Employee #1 immediately picked up the sawhorse and took it outside, but when the burning sawhorse went through the door, flames ignited the wall. Employee #1 then returned to put out the fire, but could not see the extinguisher on the wall. He went to get another extinguisher in another room when the whole room burst into flames behind him. Employee #1 was burned over 10 percent of his body and hospitalized.
