Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 553602
Event: 05/23/1993
ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU AERIAL LIFT

An electrician supervisor for an electrical contractor was working on an overhead power line job. He walked around an aerial lift truck on the jobsite and noticed that water had accumulated inside the bucket liner. The supervisor started the truck and climbed inside the bucket. Intending to empty the water, he used the upper controls to move the bucket. As he was moving and lifting the bucket, the boom contacted a 69-kilovolt overhead power line at the same time that an employee on the ground had walked over to the truck near the left side outrigger. The employee on the ground was electrocuted when he reached into the truck bed to retrieve a tool.
