Event: 09/12/1990
Employee dies after struck in chest by breaking tree

At approximately 12:35 p.m. on September 12, 1990, Employee #1 was proceeding down an old timber skid road operating a crawler tractor with a brush blade and winged subsoiler attachments. He was to use the subsoiler to prepare the roadbed for seeding (part of a soil erosion prevention program) at the turn-around at the end of the road. There were several blown down trees across the road. Employee #1 attempted to push the trees aside when one broke, sprang back, and struck him in the chest. He was airlifted out by Life Flight to an area hospital, where he died of internal injuries.
