Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170576110
Event: 09/11/1996
Employee killed when struck by felled tree that kicked up

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on September 11, 1996, Employee #1 was starting to cut down a pine tree. He then stopped and stood nearby as he waited for a 48 ft tall, approximately 20 in. diameter tree to fall. When this tree hit the ground, it kicked back up because of a limb that was sticking out. The felled tree struck Employee #1 in the rib cage and pushed him into the pine tree that he had started to cut. He sustained multiple abdominal and chest injuries, and was killed.
