Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 645077
Event: 04/21/1992
Employee dies of apparent heart attack

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on April 21, 1992, Employee #1, a utility worker whose job was to sweep and mop floors and remove trash in the kitchen of a cafeteria in an office building, was found lying face up on the kitchen floor by a coworker near closing time. The employee was being treated for diabetes and high blood pressure, according to the employee's benefits records. The employee's manager said that Employee #1 told her that he recently had a heart exam and that he must quit smoking. He also said he was considering going on disability due to his condition. Witnesses stated they saw no obvious hazards near the body, such as a wet floor or a live electric wire. The death was ruled an apparent non-occupational heart attack, pending autopsy.
