Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 14455422
Event: 12/19/1989
FALL - UTILITY POLE BROKE

A power line crew was removing conductors from a utility pole. One of the conductors slipped loose from a grip the employees were using and fell to the ground. It became stuck between the cab and the bed of a glass hauling truck that was traveling down the street. The truck pulled the conductor with it, causing the top 5.8 meters (19 feet) of the pole to break off. One of the power line workers was belted to the pole and fell with it to the ground. He landed on his upper torso. He was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries nearly 9 months after the accident, on August 6, 1990 at about 8:30 PM.
