TWO EMPLOYEES STRUCK BY FALLING ROLL OF WIRE; ONE KILLED

A CREW WAS REWIRING A FOURDRINIER PAPER MACHINE. THE ROLL OF NEW WIRE WAS SUSPENDED ABOUT 20 FEET ABOVE FLOOR LEVEL BY TWO HOISTS. THE ROLL WAS 24 FEET LONG AND 3 FEET IN DIAMETER. ONE END OF THE ROLL CAME LOOSE, ALLOWING THE ROLL TO FALL. WHEN IT FELL IT STRUCK EMPLOYEES #1 AND #2. EMPLOYEE #1 DIED. EMPLOYEE #2 SUFFERED INJURIES WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION.
