EMPLOYEE STRUCK BY FALLING BUILDING STONE

AT 7:40 PM ON AUGUST 22, 1986, EMPLOYEE #1, A LABORER, WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN A PIECE OF SHALL ESTIMATED TO WEIGH 300 POUNDS FELL ON HIM FROM THE BROW OF THE TUNNEL PORTAL IN SHAFT #7. THE STONE BENT THE EMPLOYEE OVER AND SLAMMED HIS HEAD INTO THE ROAD HEADER HE WAS OPERATING. HE WAS ALSO KNOCKED OFF THE MACHINE. AS HE WAS LYING ON THE GROUND HE WAS STRUCK BY A SECOND STONE, WHICH CRUSHED HIS HIP, PELVIS AND ANKLE. OTHER INJURIES CONSISTED OF HEAD TRAUMA, CRACKED VERTABRA AND THREE VERTABRA WHICH BECAME FUSED BY THE IMPACT ON HIS HEAD.
