EMPLOYEE'S FINGERS FRACTURED IN LAMINATING PRESS

AT 3:25 PM ON JULY 23, 1987, EMPLOYEE #1, A HIGH FREQUENCY LAMINATING PRESS OPERATOR AT THE SWISS PLYWOOD CORP., FRACTURED THE TIPS OF HIS LEFT MIDDLE AND RING FINGERS. WHILE TRIPPING THE FOOT PEDAL TO CLOSE THE PRESS FRAME HE INADVERTENTLY PLACED THE TIPS OF HIS FINGERS BETWEEN THE FRAME OF THE PRESS AND THE BOARD THAT WAS BEING PRESSED. EMPLOYEE #1 WAS TAKEN TO THE TELL CITY MEDICAL CLINIC IN TELL CITY, IN. WHERE HE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED. THE CONTROL PEDAL AND THE PRESS ARE AIR OPERATED. THIS ACCIDENT WAS THE RESULT OF THE EMPLOYEE FAILING TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO HIS WORK.
