EMPLOYEE STRUCK BY OVERHEAD POWER LINES BEING STRUNG

ON DECEMBER 2, 1986, AT ABOUT 2:15 PM, EMPLOYEE #1 WAS STANDING BY THE NORTH RAILING OF A ROADWAY UNDERPASS. THE REMAINING 5 CREWMEMBERS WERE LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE ROADWAY, FRAMING A TELEPHONE/ELECTRICAL POLE FOR INSTALLATION. CONDUCTORS FOR THE POLE HAD BEEN STRUNG ACROSS THE SOUTH SIDE RAILING, ACROSS THE ROADWAY AND UP OVER A CONDUCTOR ON A LIGHT POLE. A WEST BOUND COMMERCIAL VEHICLE CAUGHT THE CONDUCTORS STRUNG ACROSS THE ROADWAY. THE CONDUCTORS STRUCK EMPLOYEE #1 IN THE CHEST, BREAKING RIBS AND DAMAGING A LUNG. HE SUFFERED HEART FAILURE. ATTEMPTS TO RESUSCITATE THE EMPLOYEE FAILED.
