Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 14524789
Event: 09/13/1991
Employee murdered by group home patient

Five patients lived in a group home for the mentally retarded. There was one direct-care staff worker, Employee #1, who supervised the patients. One night, a female patient and the employee were the only ones awake. The other patients had gone out or were asleep. The female patient called the EMT and said she found the employee on the floor. There were signs of a struggle; curtains were ripped off the wall, a bulletin board was off the wall, and papers were strewn about. The female patient also had rug burns on her head. The patient later signed a statement saying she "choked her a little." The initial phase of the autopsy revealed that Employee #1 most likely died of strangulation.
