FIVE EMPLOYEES HOSPITALIZED AFTER FIGHTING FIRE AT OIL RIG

A FIRE BEGAN IN THE TRASH DUMPSTER LOCATED ON THE PIPE DECK. THE DUMPSTER CONTAINED RAGS, PAPER, FOOD WASTES, OIL ABSORBENT PADS AND FILTERS, AND CHLORINATION TABLETS USED IN THE SEWAGE TREATMENT SYSTEM. THE TABLETS ARE A STRONG OXIDIZING AGENT AND IGNITED THE COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL IN THE DUMPSTER. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED IN 30 MINUTES. EMPLOYEES #1 THRU #5 WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR OBSERVATION AND RELEASED.
