Investigation Summary
ON SEPTEMBER 16, 1987, LARGE NUMBERS OF EMPLOYEES BEGAN COMPLAINING OF HEADACHES, NAUSEA AND DIZZINESS BETWEEN 10:30 IN THE MORNING AND 12 NOON. THE PLANT WAS EVACUATED AT 12:30 PM. AT 12:50 PM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND AMBULANCE SERVICES ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AND BEGAN TRANSPORTING A TOTAL OF 62 EMPLOYEES TO HAMPTON GENERAL HOSPITAL. 23 WERE ADMITTED BETWEEN 1 AND 2:30 PM. CARBON MONOXIDE GAS EMITTED FROM A FORKLIFT WAS SUSPECTED AS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
