Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 14224240
Event: 06/03/1985
EMPLOYEE'S HAND LACERATED ON SAW

On June 3, 1985, Employee #1 was sawing crib blocks on a bolten saw when his hand was caught in the saw blade. The process is to take a small log, 12 inches in diameter and 24 inches long, and cut it into crib part for handles. A bolten saw is a very old saw that was in general use many years ago. No name or numbers could be found on the saw. Employee #1 received a hand laceration and had not returned to work. The plant was closed down on the date of the inspection. At the time, the inspector knew of no way to improve the guarding of a bolten saw.
