Employee Fractures Jaw When Ladder Falls

At 10:00 a.m. on December 30, 2013, an employee was working as a temporary employee of Extra Space Storage in Wilmington, CA. Extra Space Storage rents and maintains storage containers for the general public. The employee had been supplied to Extra Space Storage by Reliable Resources. The employee was changing a light bulb in a storage container. To access the light bulb, the employee used an A-frame ladder belonging to Extra Space Storage. He leaned it up against the storage container's work bench. As he leaned on the ladder, it slipped out from underneath him. He fell forward, striking his face on the storage container's work bench. The employee lifted himself off the work table and walked to the front office. He informed the management of Extra Space Storage of what had just happened. He then called Reliable Resources. The management of Reliable Resources sent a cab to the location and had the employee transported to Beverly Hospital in Montebello, CA. Beverly Hospital transferred the employee to Harbor UCLA Hospital. At Harbor UCLA, the employee underwent treatment for a broken jaw. His jaw was wired shut. The injury was reported to the Torrance Division of Occupational Safety and Health Office at 9:18 a.m. on December 31, 2013.
