Employee Suffers Head Fracture When Struck by Tailgate

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on February 06, 2014, Employee #1, a landscaper, was disconnecting a trailer from a truck. The employee was performing duties of a landscaper, including connecting and disconnecting trailers. Employee #1 had finished loading the truck with tools and closed the truck tailgate and proceeded to disconnect the trailer attached to the truck. When he bent down over a trailer ball latch, the tailgate struck him in the back of the head and forced his head into the latch causing injury to his forehead. Employee #1 was able to call for help and was taken to an emergency room. The employee was transferred Arroyo Grande Community Hospital then to Sierra Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for a head fracture.
