Event: 03/18/2013
Employee Is Struck by Vehicle and Fractures Spine

At approximately 8:40 a.m. on March 18, 2013, Employee #1, an apprentice technician, was relocating a vehicle from the service department parking lot into a service bay. The vehicle was a Porsche 911. Its battery was dead, so he used a battery pack to charge it. He entered the vehicle to rev the engine. Employee #1 thought the vehicle was in neutral. As he pressed on the gas petal, the vehicle drove off in reverse. Employee #1 was struck by the edge of the vehicle's driver side door and was thrown backwards. He sustained compression fractures to his spine. Employee #1 was transported to a medical center, where he underwent surgical procedures and was then hospitalized for postoperative care.
