Event: 10/24/2012
Tree Worker Is Killed in Fall from Tree

At approximately 10:45 a.m. on October 24, 2012, Employee #1 was removing trees from a residence in York, SC. His employer has a crew of four workers removing pine trees at the residence. Employee #1 was climbing the pine trees to remove a top section. Employee #1 had finished topping a tree. As he was descending from the tree, he fell approximately 50 feet (15.2 meters) to the ground. He was killed. Other workers were on the site, but they were operating chain saws in other areas of the property and did not hear or see the fall. There were no witnesses to the accident. Employee #1 was using an AOSafety SafeWaze harness and wearing metal spikes. None of the climbing equipment had any points of critical wear or failure. The climbing gear Employee #1 was his own, and he was the competent person who inspected the gear. No other members of the crew were climbers.
