Two Employees Are Injured When Wall Falls

At approximately 1:41 p.m. on March 1, 2013, Employees #1 and #2 and two coworkers were on the second level performing construction wood framing of a two-story six-unit commercial and retail building. Employee #1 and #2 were injured when four workers lost control of a wood frame wall they were erecting manually. Employee #1 and #2 became pinned under the wall. Employee #1 was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital, where he stayed four nights for treatment to fractures in several lumbar vertebras. Employee #2 was not hospitalized. The framing wall was made from 2 in. by 6 in. cross section solid wood lumber. The wall was 10.8 ft tall by 10.75 ft wide. According to Employee #2, the wall was raised using two "stop blocks" on the floor to prevent the wall from slipping horizontally.
