Employee Gets Finger Amputated by Chain Conveyor

At approximately 10:05 p.m., on January 28, 2012 Employee #1 of Eaton Corporation was operating a valve seat grinder on the 880 line. Employee #1 was experiencing difficulties with the machine. He shut off the machine, opened the access door, placed the machine into manual mode, and turned on the chain conveyor. He then removed the guard cover on the chain and sprocket; he then touched the moving chain resulting in the right index finger amputated at first digit. Machine was Earlsdon Seater, (valve grinding machine), ID-Brass Tag #3585.
