Event: 03/29/2012
Employeeaaa's Arm Is Amputated When Platform Falls on Him

At 1:00 p.m. on March 29, 2012, Employee #1 was cutting a section of an old oil/gas platform at a local scrap yard. One leg was 88 feet long and the other leg was 10 feet long. The combined weight of both legs of the platform was 70 tons. Employee #1 made a 9 foot 9 inch cut leaving 3 inches of uncut metal on the 10 foot long leg. He then began backing away from the site when the longer side started to fall over, carrying with it the other leg. The 10 foot section sheared off and fell onto Employee #1, pinning him underneath. His left arm had to be amputated and he was taken to a local hospital where he died later in the day.
