Event: 12/16/2013
Teacher Is Injured in Same Level Trip and Fall

At approximately 2:24 p.m. on December 16, 2013, Employee #1, a 55-year-old female teacher with Desert Sands Unified School District was returning to the classroom when she tripped or unexpectedly fell to the ground. Employee #1 received a fractured left ankle that caused Employee #1 to be hospitalized for a day and half. Employee #1 was admitted to the hospital on December 24, 2013 and discharged on December 25, 2013. The cause of this incident was Employee #1 unexpectedly fell to the ground as she was walking back to the classroom. Employee #1 was outside watching students taking a part in a physical education (PE) class prior to the fall. Desert Sands Unified School District was a public school district, which at the time of the investigation was reported to have 21 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, 4 high schools and 2 continuation schools.
