Employee's Fingers Are Amputated by Meat Band Saw

At approximately 6:40 a.m. 0n February 21, 2012, Employee #1 was operating a meat band (Hobart, Model Number 6801, Serial Number 271136061) in the meat department of a retail grocery store. He was cutting a 15- to 18-in.-long round shank boned beef piece into thin pieces. He set the guard about 4 to 5 in. above the meat and began to cut pieces to 1.25 in. thickness. When the meat piece Employee #1 was holding in his right hand shifted, and the saw blade contacted his right middle and ring fingers. He was hospitalized for partial amputations of the two fingers.
