Event: 01/13/2012
Employee Injurs Hand in Press Accident

Employee #1 went around to the back side of the press, opened the doors as the press was in jog mode bypassing the interlocks. A coworker was jogging the press to see if it would jam. While looking at the press from the back side, Employee #1 noticed that the coil strip was not riding in the guide post like it should. Employee #1 put his left hand into the point of operation to try and feed it back into the guide post, while the coworker activated the press. Employee #1 thought the coworker was going to activate the coil advance and not the press in jog mode. When the press was activated in the jog mode, it came down on Employee #1 and injured the fingers of his left hand. Employee #1 received fractures and compression injuries to the hand.
