Investigation Summary
On December 14, 2012, Employee #1, a 50-year-old male with Merchants Building Services was engaged in conversation with coworkers in the employer's parking lot when he suddenly collapsed. Employee #1 was not engaged in his regular employment at the time of the incident, but rather had stopped by to pick-up a check from his employer. The coroner responded and determined that Employee #1 died from non-work related causes. The Division affirmed that the incident was non-work related, did not occur during employment, therefore the incident is not within Division jurisdiction. The employer was engaged in the janitorial business and Employee #1 was not a contract worker.
