Employee Falls from Apartment Roof, Suffers Back Injuries

On August 22, 2011, an employee, employed by Hoyt Roofs, Inc., was performing "tear off," removing roofing material from an apartment roof. The employee stepped backwards and fell off the roof, falling approximately 17 feet to the dirt below. The employee suffered serious back injuries that resulted in several months' hospitalization. The OSHA Division first learned of this accident on February 27, 2012, when the employee's attorney notified the Agency. Employer is a roofing contractor, and the injured employee is a full-time, regularly employed (noncontracted) roofing laborer.
