Event: 04/11/2013
Employee Killed in Skid Bucket Accident

An incident occurred as Employee #1 and a coworker were straightening and re-staking tall pine tree. Employee #1 was using a 7800 Skid Steer Loader front frame. Employee #1 had the Skid Steer bucket raised with a nylon ratchet strap attached to the tree and the Skid Steer bucket. Employee #1 was standing underneath the bucket with the Skid Steer running. At the same time, the coworker was standing on the other side of the tree and did not see what happened. The coworker heard a moan and didn't think anything about it; he thought Employee #1 was having a problem getting into the Skid Steer. After several minutes later, he came around the tree and the owner was crushed between the cross member of the bucket lift arms and the front cab frame of the Skid Steer. Emergency services were called, and Employee #1 was pronounced dead at the scene.
